Shirley Winslow

Shirley Winslow was born and raised in Rhode Island and showed an interest in art at an early age.  She began attending classes for young people at the Rhode Island School of Design at the age of 10. Though accepted as a matriculating student in their college program, her focus changed to the field of social service and she received a B.A. in Sociology from Salve Regina University in Newport RI. While working as a social worker she continued her studies in art, taking classes in watercolor.  Her work with children and young adults provoked an interest in portraiture and she began working in pastel.

Winslow was a finalist in the Artist's Magazine 1991 Art Competition in the portrait category with a watercolor figure study.  In May of 2002 she left her long-time home in Massachusetts and moved to Las Vegas, drawn by the fact that both of her daughters were living there, and the opportunity to paint the magnificent southwestern landscape.  She is a signature member of the Nevada Watercolor Society, the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and a past member of the New England Watercolor Society. Her work can be seen at the Boulder City Art Guild Gallery and in numerous shows in and around the region. She can be reached in Las Vegas at 702-407-0029.
