Artist Statement:
Born and raised in a small Wisconsin town, I found my earliest inspiration in the beauty of nature. As a youngster, I always had a crayon in my hand, ready to capture the world around me. My love for creativity was not just a hobby, but a lifeline. An accident in my childhood led to me missing most of third grade and part of fourth. During this challenging time, my mobility was limited, but my imagination was not. My mother ensured I had a constant supply of creative materials, and a tutor helped me keep up with my studies.
Throughout my schooling, from second grade throughout high school, I was guided by my art teacher, Mrs Soleman. My first art show was at a shopping mall in Madison, WI, a proud moment that was unfortunately marred when someone stole my piece. After graduation, I moved into the workforce full time, taking on roles in factory work, retail management, and eventually as a warranty administrator in Las Vegas and Pahrump, NV.
In Pahrump, I became involved with the Pahrump Arts Council (PAC), where I met inspiring individuals like Bernie and Janet Toy, who shared stories or working with famous artists like Andy Warhol. However, after losing my job, I spent a year unemployed, during which I worked with a career counselor who encouraged my art career.
During this period, I found time to experiment with different mediums, including watercolor pencils, pastels and pen and ink. It was acrylic paint that truly captured my heart and became my favorite medium. I have several sketch books filled with creations from my childhood to present, a testament to my constant drive to create.
Eventually, I moved to Kingman, Az. Despite working in a factory for the past 15 years, I’ve never stopped dreaming of a time when I could create full time again. Now, as I look forward to retirement, I’m excited to venture back into the creative world. My husband and I have have found our way into The River Valley Art Guild, Boulder City Art Guild, and the City Lights Art Gallery. We’ve traveled much of Route 66 highway to sell our creations, and the roads we’ve traveled have become my inspiration.
My journey has been an adventure of beauty and learning. The creation comes to me naturally. The beauty of this country is full of glorious inspirations that cannot be harnessed by one, but only by many. I invite you to join me as I entertain you with my imagination, full of fun and color, and help you wander through the experiences of my life journeys.
