About

Linda Shaffer is an award winning, full time abstract artist working in mixed

media, painting, mono printing and collage in Las Vegas.  She has a Graduate

degree from Loma Linda University, is a Registered Nurse, and after completing

the Gemological Institute of America’s Graduate Jeweler program in 2010,

created the Red Pearl Art brand to encompass her jewelry designs and art

works.

Her work is inspired by travel, relationships and human connection. She uses

abstract forms and color to explore the themes of journey, love and connection.

Each piece of art is an experimentation with recycled materials and multiple

mediums. When she travels, she collects paper from around the world and uses

that paper in her art.  She hand prints papers, incorporates recycled materials,

all the while adding bits and pieces from her everyday life and travel to create

works that are both personal and universal.

She teaches art classes locally and for the past five years at the Art Center in

Boulder City; encouraging people to find their authentic, intuitive, and fun

approach to making art.  Her work is available at MAD Gallery, UGallery.com,

Boulder City Art Gallery, and at the Art Box in the Container Park.

Artist Statement

I create multi-layered works that invite the viewer to take a journey through each

piece. My work is inspired by travel, relationships and human connection.  I use

abstract forms and color to explore the themes of love and connection.  Each

piece is an experimentation with recycled materials and multiple mediums.  I

hand print papers, incorporate recycled materials, all the while adding bits and

pieces from my everyday life and my travels to create works that are both

personal and universal. My goal is to create pieces that emotionally resonant,

are visually engaging, and offer the viewer surprises that are waiting to be

discovered in each layer.

Artist Bio

I began my artistic journey on a school field trip to the famous Van Briggle

Pottery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The highlight of the trip was watching a

potter work on the wheel.  A lump of clay becoming a vessel right before my

eyes.  I decided then, I would learn to work with clay.

I got my opportunity to take pottery classes in Manitou Springs, Colorado while

attending school to become a Registered Nurse.  After graduation, I purchased

a wheel and threw pots.   At Loma Linda University in Graduate school, working

with clay became too difficult, so I began making jewelry and painting with

acrylics.  After Graduate school, I opened up a part time pottery studio, made

jewelry, and painted.

When I retired from teaching college, I made art my full-time focus.  In 2010, I

attended the Gemological Institute of America’s Graduate Jeweler program. I

created the Red Pearl brand to encompass both my jewelry designs and art.  I

am currently a full-time working artist.
