The artist of the month for January is Ann Boulais.
“Dare to live the life you've always wanted.”
Growing up in Western Massachusetts, I never really appreciated the soft rolling hills and the colours of the fall until I left. After leaving Massachusetts I headed for Philadelphia, where I came to truly appreciate the history of our Nation. Everyday, never once taking for granted the documents that were created there and the lives our founding fathers lived, that history came to life daily as I walked the same roads that they did. While in Philadelphia I lived on a boat for five years, gaining true appreciation for a simpler life. Growing weary of shoveling snow off the docks to walk the dogs, I figured there had to be a different place where we didn't have to do that.
Anthony and I somewhat threw a dart on a board and headed west, and landed in Las Vegas. I took a job as a Tour Director, serving to educate youth and adults alike, while spending my days in the National Parks. I decided that this was the time to document the things I was seeing, but in addition to drop the camera at times and know that the best images are the ones you create in your mind.
I tend to love black and white, and truly appreciate the path that Ansel Adams took us down when he gave us the parks void of colours. A lot of my work is black and white or selective color, which allows the viewer to add the colours to the images and create the mood that they like. My work can be found at various locations in the Boulder City area or on Fine Art America, I hope you enjoy my travels and work.
A reception for Ann will be held Saturday, January 13 from 1 to 3 at the gallery. Everyone is welcome.
We hope you will visit the Boulder City Art Guild's Gallery during the month of January to see the work of Ann.
