Jan Harris Arduini

Creating art provides me with inner peace along with a sense of fulfillment. My style leans slightly toward realism, with subjects ranging from portraits to landscapes. My medium of choice is oil paint, but I also work in acrylic and watercolor. I love blending vivid colors with a small brush and enjoy pushing the paint around when creating a piece. While I prefer working on a relatively small scale, I have painted varying sizes of large banners and backdrops. Sketching and drawing is another form of art that I enjoy.

Born in Wales, Great Britain, my family immigrated to Toronto, Canada when I was seven. Three years later the family moved to Chicago, Illinois. I raised a large family of six, all of which I taught at home. Today I have 6 grandsons.

After high school, my formal  art education includes Fundamentals and Life Drawing at the American Academy of Art in Chicago: Watercolor Portraits through North Light Academy: Art History and Portraits at Moraine Valley Community College, in Palos Heights., IL and later several oil painting classes at Palette & Chisel Academy in Chicago. For over fifteen years I taught art and art history to students grades k through 12 in private schools and home school groups in addition to private lessons in drawing and painting. During that time I wrote my own art curriculum. I was also able to attend several teacher's workshops at the Art Institute of Chicago.

After moving to Las Vegas in 2009 I was able to devote all my time to my passion for painting and drawing. I have participated in over 30 group shows in the Arts District, as well as painting live at the Art's Factory and the Gold Lounge at the Aria. I have contributed to various charitable art projects, including Habitat for Humanity, Guitars for Autism, and Circus Couture benefiting St. Baldrick’s Foundation. My work has been exhibited at Henderson City Hall, Clark County fair and in Caliente, NV.

Currently my work is on display at City of the World Gallery and the Red Room in the Arts Factory, both in the arts district in Las Vegas, and at Boulder City Art Guild's Gallery, in Boulder City. I also painted a wall mural surrounding the Union House in the Arts District. I am actively involved with the Artz-to-Go program, bringing art to children in the Las Vegas area.
