Bill feels that he has always been an artist at heart, in search of a medium.
Having been a general contractor for years, Bill understands proportion, color, dimensions and all that goes into 2D art – but was looking for something that would fire the creative flame inside.
Over 10 years ago Bill found his medium in pottery through an increasing interest in the work of other artists. He began studying and taking classes. Although difficult and frustrating at first, he was determined to learn the art that so intrigued him.
Recently Bill spent two weeks studying with ceramic artist Alberto Cidraes in Brazil. Alberto is a celebrated renown and much honored artist that studied pottery/ceramic techniques for many years in Japan with known masters of the art.
If Bill was looking for a challenge in art, he has found it in Raku, the pottery technique that has it's origin in 16thcentury Japan.
There are many alternative kilns and firing techniques. What differentiates Raku from other forms is that it goes deeper into philosophical roots and cultural significance.
Raku which means “happiness through chance”, expresses simplicity, beauty and balance. It is in itself what excites and continues to inspire Bill's art.
