Drina Fried is the featured artist for the month of September in the Boulder City Art Gallery.
Drina’s prior experience in psychology, teaching, sewing, and even music, led to her becoming a professional visual artist. She has brought many talents together over time, that have contributed to her unique art. Drina began taking art classes while growing up in New York. Although she majored in Psychology, she also took a Masters course in Art History and would eventually combine both in speaking engagements and demonstrations.
She moved to the Central Valley in California in the late 1970’s and while her professional title was Psychologist she continued her art work which was accepted into many juried exhibitions sponsored by Kern County Arts Council, Bakersfield Arts Association and a Fine Craft show in San Luis Obispo. In 1994 Drina became interested in fabrics and learned to sew. Within a few years she found herself creating art again using a whole new media. She developed her own embellished fabric collage art. She had a solo exhibit in Bakersfield and gave a talk & demonstration in her fabric art. By 2006 she began focusing on pursuing her Art as a profession.
Drina moved to Las Vegas in 2008 with her husband and set up her art studio in Henderson NV. She became involved with several local artist groups (Vegas Art Guild, Henderson Art Assoc., Boulder City Art Guild) and wrote articles and gave presentations on her media. Drina’s work has been exhibited in a number of Clark County libraries and has been juried into exhibits at the M. Barrick Museum (2011) and Springs Preserve (2010). Her art has won numerous awards including: “Best of Show” in the 29th Annual Celebrating Life exhibit, and 3rd place again in the 31st annual show, and a 1st place in mixed media 2015, which meant all 3 works were hung in Las Vegas City Hall Winner’s Circle exhibits. Her works continue to receive awards. Drina's embellished fabric collage art is becoming more well known and extremely well received. She is a talented artist from a family of talent, which includes her famous grandmoth-er, author Taylor Caldwell.
