Dates to remember:
Gallery change over Sept 24th
Winterfest Nov 13th &14th
Valley of Fire December
We are off to a new Guild year, so with all your help I am sure it will be another great one for us. I am sorry I have let the newsletter lag over the last year, but had been meaning to start up again and was finally nudged by Terry Rohbacher to get going so I am doing it.
Many changes have occurred during the last 12 months. We have two computers in the gallery now. Our goal is that the old computer will be our business computer with restricted access only. This had to be done since all of our business is now being done on that computer and is not being sent out to a service any more. Our two treasurers KC Knight and Dotty Fenner are first in line for access to the computer. When either of them are either sitting the gallery or working in the office, the computer has to be available. Judy Barton is our e-mail monitor and has access to keep incoming e-mails either deleted or forwarded to the pertinent member it applies to. Georgine Morelli is our Web monitor and makes changes when necessary on our Website. We are in process of establishing an on site gallery where artists work will be offered for viewing and for sale. Details will be sent out shortly, instructing members how to participate in our “:On Line Gallery”.
At our last board meeting it was decided to revert back to a practice we used to do several years ago. The cost of mailing out a check is quite considerable and will be more with the postage increase to be effective next Januasry 2011. So small sales reimbursement checks under $10 will be held on account and mailed when the amount totals $10 or more. If at the end of 3 months an artist has not accumulated that amount, a check for the amount being held will then be mailed out.
Those members who do not hang in the gallery at the present time should visit and see how beautiful it is. We have much more 3 dimentional work showing and additional cube cases in which to display the art. Winner of the Visitors Choice Award was Hamilton Moore for his panoramic photo of Lake Mead and Boulder City. Congratulations Hamilton. Visitation is steady, some days better than others with many sales of note cards and prints and an occasional framed piece. The 3 dimentional items and jewellery in the gift shop are popular. The change over for the final quarter of the year will take place on September 24th. Later reminders will be forthcoming. Shirley Jean is the current featured artist. Her work is beautiful and in some cases quite unique. Her reception was a great success. Husband Harvey supplied the guests with some of his home-made ice cream. Absolutely delicious Harvey. Your home made biscotti was great also.
In the fall when summer vacations and travel are over we would like to start up our
monthly membership meetings. Ed Klein has some great suggestions for a variety of programs that would make the meetings fun and informative. You will be hearing more about them soon and would like your comments or suggestions as to what you personally would like to have us present to you at these meetings.
The Chamber of Commerce, City Hall and the Redevelopment Office shows are all hung thanks to Wendy Monahan and RB Bertrams who did all the transporting to and from, as well as getting the shows hung. Any member who would like to help would find helping Wendy a great way to participate in an important Guild activity. These changes only occur twice a year and time spent is only one to two hours each change over.
Winterfest will be held November 13th & 14th in the new gymnasium at the rec center. Entry forms and rules will be available in the gallery and on our website shortly. Again, lots of help is needed for these outside shows and we rely on members to fill the need. Because the rec center is away from the main street through town, we have to inform the public where we are so when it gets close to show time we will need workers to distribute fliers with a map to the show site. This is an important item.
Valley of Fire show is scheduled for December and Chuck Siefert and Ann Carter are in charge of this show. VOF requires that the work be representational of the desert southwest, especially the Valley of Fire area .You are urged to sign up for this show so we can judge how many pieces each artist may enter. 3 dimentional artists may also enter their work. Note cards are NOT included in the show because of the difficulty of keeping track of them and the possibility that some get stolen.
Don’t forget the 1st Annual Boulder City Gingerbread House competition. This event will be held in the Boulder Creek Pavilion on December 10th. Rules may be down loaded at:www.bcgingerbreadhouse.com. Guild member Rudi Kraft is the originator and director of this show. He can be reached at bcgingerbread@embarqmail.com
